Philippine Magpie Robin
PHILIPPINE MAGPIE ROBIN
Copsychus saularis
Turdidae Family
Endemic- Uncommon
Length 7 3/4" (197mm)
Bird #50 - November 2008
This was at the waterfall area of Villa Escudero. There was a small group of Philippine Magpie Robins playing by the railing. It was very shady there, and difficult to get a good picture.
We have seen this bird in many places including Alabang, Batangas, Laguna in UPLB, and Negros.
There are two races of this bird deuteronymus found in Luzon and mindanensis which we saw in Negros. The male is a bluish black and the female is dark grey. We have seen them in pairs usually some times alone.
